Empower the Disadvantaged: Yanet Niguse Tesfay’s Approach to Breaking the Cycle of Exploitation and Poverty

Introduction: Hello everyone, I'm Yanet Niguse Tesfay, and today I'm excited to share with you a project that is very close to my heart. Throughout my life, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by vulnerable children and women globally. One particular night, returning home from a family celebration, I encountered a child my age selling goods on the streets. While I enjoyed the comfort of family support, this encounter sparked a deep-seated commitment to empower children in similar situations—a vision I have nurtured for over a decade.

The Problem: Many communities worldwide struggle with a cycle of exploitation and poverty affecting street children and vulnerable women. Children are often forced onto the streets due to poverty or family instability, while women face societal stigma and limited opportunities, leading to difficult circumstances beyond their control.

Introducing "Empower The Disadvantaged": My project, "Empower The Disadvantaged," aims to address these universal challenges through a holistic and sustainable approach. At its core, the project focuses on providing comprehensive support to vulnerable children and women, empowering them to break free from exploitation and poverty.

Project Components:

• Skills and Enterprise Development: We will offer training in handicrafts, agriculture, tailoring, construction, and IT skills. These skills provide alternative sources of income and foster economic independence.

• Early Childhood Education: Recognizing the importance of early intervention, we will provide basic education, nutrition, healthcare, and emotional support to ensure a stable foundation for young children.

• Family Support and Reintegration: Through counseling and community engagement, we will support families affected by exploitation, promoting stable family environments that prevent children from falling into vulnerable situations.

Impact and Sustainability: Our project is designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to create lasting change in communities. By equipping individuals with skills and education, we empower them to build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Our revenue model ensures sustainability, with participants retaining 70% of their earnings from product sales and services.

Why This Matters to Me: My personal experiences and dedication to social impact drive my commitment to "Empower The Disadvantaged." Having witnessed the struggles of friends and community members, I understand the urgent need for support and opportunities globally. Together, we can break cycles of exploitation and poverty, creating inclusive and thriving communities worldwide.
